Deputy President William Ruto disclosed how tumultuous his life was but at the same time, assured his followers that he was a happy man and was living his life to the fullest.
Ruto, who spoke to NTV's Ken Mijungu on Sidebar, on Thursday, January 24, responded to a question by the host, who wanted to find out whether he was frustrated by constant attacks.
"From the outside, you have everything. You are a man of God, a wealthy man who has a plum position in government. You are the second in command in the country. Are you happy?" Mijungu asked.
Ruto maintained a calm demeanour before answering politely.
"I am a very happy man, my friend. I sleep very well and for eight hours. For your information, I have never been bothered. I see many people worry about many things.
"I may not have all the things you have said, but I am truly blessed. From where I have come from to where I am today, I cannot complain. God has been kind to me. The people of Kenya have been fairer to me," Ruto affirmed.
He went on to state that he is one of the most long-serving politicians in Kenya and his journey has been impeccable
"I have participated in seven elections as an individual. In 2002, I didn't lose my parliamentary seat although we (supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta) lost the presidential election. It would be unfair for me to complain," Ruto asserted.
At that point, Mijungu further asked him to reveal how he handles and relieves pressure which comes with his prestigious job, noting that many individuals drink or party.
"I have never found myself with pressure. I take everything as it comes. If I worried about pressure, I would be dead. It is very difficult to be William Ruto. God has been graceful to me. I do what I can and leave the rest to God," Ruto proclaimed.
Before launching his political career, a young Ruto hustled at the busy Eldoret- Malaba Highway, where he sold chicken to motorists plying the route.
The self-proclaimed hustler also sold charcoal and wore his first pair of shoes in 1981 while he was preparing to sit his CPE examinations.
From such a humble background, he has seen his fortune grow. He owns a multi-billion enterprise entailing hotels, chicken businesses and multiple undisclosed ventures.
However, he has faced several storms in recent times and claimed that the woes started when he declared interest in the presidency.
Numerous reports have stated how Ruto's convoy was allegedly withdrawn, how he was reportedly snubbed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in Mombasa and how the Director of Criminal Investigation George Kinoti, reopened a land fraud case against him.
