"We were informed of one case of a contact with the first index case who had visited Cottage Hospital," Kamario stated.

"The woman had gone to the health facility to visit a patient (a relative) who is terminally ill but coincidentally, she happened to have travelled with the first index case. The Ministry of Immigration traced her and alerted us," he added.

Kimario further stated that the County Government of Laikipia was in liaison with Nanyuki Cottage Hospital to ensure the woman was well supported.

"I would urge Laikipians to know that the contact is stable and does not have any disease leave alone Coronavirus. We will not use our isolation wards to quarantine patients who do not show symptoms of coronavirus," Kimario stated.

The county executive asked members of the public who had come into contact with the first Coronavirus patient to adhere to the government's directive and self-quarantine.

Kimario revealed that the county had set aside 53 isolation beds in 11 health facilities.

These include Nanyuki Teaching and Referral, Nyahururu Level Four, Pope Benedict, Nyahururu Private, Oljabet, Charity, Consolata, Cottage, Rumuruti Sub-county, Kimanjo Sub-county and Doldol Sub-county hospitals.

He added that along with the isolation units, the county was facilitating the training of laboratory technologists and medical officers on Coronavirus surveillance, preparedness and response at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) in Nairobi.

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday, March 15 announced that the Coronavirus cases had hit three after two people who were in contact with patient zero tested positive.

Twenty-two others also suspected to have come in contact with the first patient have been quarantined with twenty-three others asked to self-quarantine.
