Boda boda operators and mechanics at a garage in Ruaka Town abandoned their duties and joined in on the National Prayer Day action on Saturday, March 21.
The men and women went down on their knees with their hands raised to the sky and prayed for the country over the Coronavirus pandemic.
Their act was in line with the national prayer service that was held at State House Nairobi as called for by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday, March 17
President Kenyatta had urged Kenyans to come together and ask God for forgiveness, as the country braced itself for the Coronavirus pandemic.
Uhuru urged Kenyans to turn to God as the country has done in the past and give thanks for the many blessings bestowed on our nation. He urged that members of the public share their fears, apprehensions and also to seek guidance and protection.
The head of state along with Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga on March 21 led other leaders in the country in praying for the nation.
The service was presided over by 26 religious leaders with Bishop David Oginde of Christ is the Answer Ministries (Citam) and Archbishop Anthony Muheria (Archbishop of Nyeri/Kitui) as the MCs.
The event was broadcasted live on television, with several radio stations also covering the event. This, President Kenyatta had noted, would allow the country to participate in the service.
While delivering an address at the function, the head of state, stated that as much as the world had turned to science to find a cure for the Covid-19 virus, God was equally as important.
“It is good to come together as a nation; it is good to pray together as a nation. I know there are those who are saying that we should depend on science, not prayers, but I want to assure you that even science needs God. So, we need to always remember that a nation prospers when it believes and trusts in its maker,” President Kenyatta stated.
He urged that members of the public along with religious leaders continue praying for the country, as it strives to overcome the challenges brought about by the Coronavirus pandemic.
“Mine is to continue asking you fellow Kenyans, to continue praying for peace, continue praying for reconciliation, pray for unity, prosperity and understanding and I am certain that our God is a listening God and He will hear us and grant us our desires and wishes,” he stated.
