Nairobi County has intensified the fight against the spread of Covid-19 by upscaling its fumigation exercise.

In a press release, Health CEC Hitan Majevdia stated that the exercise will start from Eastleigh and will cover all high-risk areas.

“On March 28, 2020, the county team will carry out a fumigation exercise starting from Eastleigh at the General Waruinge Street and 1st Eastleigh Avenue as from 11.00 a.m.,” read the statement.

Speaking on phone with Kenyans.co.ke, he stated that the exercise will be an ongoing process until the virus is contained.

“We will be in Eastleigh all day today since it is an expansive area with other sections of Nairobi being covered in days to come. We shall not relent until the virus is defeated,” vowed Hitan.

He also intimated that they had chosen Eastleigh given the area's high population density and will later move to other high-risk zones in the city.

Hitan appealed to the public to give way for the county officers to access and fumigate all required areas effectively.

The first fumigation in the country was done in Rongai by public health officials after the woman to test positive for the Covid-19 virus in Kenya on March 13, was found to be residing there.

This fumigation was followed up on March 18, covering Nairobi CBD.

Kenya has now recorded 31 positive cases of the Covid-19 virus and has implemented a number of measures such as dawn to dusk curfew, which took effect on March 27, aimed at encouraging social distancing.

CS Mutahi Kagwe revealed on March 24, that Nairobi is among the 4 Covid-19 hotspots in the country, the others being Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa.

"Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale. We have always felt that these counties have extra exposure," Kagwe told the media.

Nairobi residents will be comforted by the prevention and control measures taken by the county and national government to curb the spread of this virus.
