Zoezi is a Swahili word meaning exercise. Zoezi Sports is a homegrown fitness brand aimed at women. Founded by Yvonne Bulimo a former television presenter on Tujuane, the hit show that paired up youthful Kenyans seeking to find their perfect matches. Now turned an entrepreneur she encourages women to embrace an active lifestyle and be relentless in the pursuit of their goals.

Based in the US, the Kenyan born-American bred 31-year-old CEO revealed that at 26 she knew that she wanted to go back to Kenya, spend time with her family and learn more about her roots.

“I looked at the African continent and noticed a gap in the space. Nothing that really spoke to Africans in regards to fashion and fitness. Off I went, sketching my first designs and sample pieces. Later I consulted my mother on what I needed to set up a business in the states”’ said the entrepreneur in a past interview.

Zoezis outfits are more versatile than your ordinary workout clothes. They are made with the intention of transcending occasions. You can wear them to your yoga session or even pair a jumpsuit with a pair of heels and head to the office and still look presentable.

“ I started a new journey, to create what I wanted to see. It is my vision that ZOEZI inspires you to feel good, by looking good while working out, you’ll be more motivated to stay fit, she disclosed.

It really does not matter if you are into yoga, boxing, running or going out for coffee with friends, these styles are as functional as they are fashionable,” said Ms Bulimo, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Howard University.

The journey to launching her sportswear brand has been a long one. Since back in 2012 Yvonne flirted with the idea of starting a business that intersects at fashion and sports. However, like most new entrepreneurs adequate starting capital and overcoming the fear of what if her new ventures fail proved to be stumbling blocks. Not one to let a challenge knock her off her path to achieving her goals, she stuck to her guns and launched the business in November 2019, in Los Angeles, USA.

Back when she was a television presenter Yvonne recalls a cyberbullying incident that started her onto her fitness path.

“oh my gosh. Is she pregnant? And I wasn’t and so that’s where my fitness journey started, she recalls.

Having focused on losing weight back then, this has now shifted to toning up and keeping fit as well as inspiring women to embark on their fitness journey.

She credits her mother, an American based realtor, for having helped her set good foundations for her business.

At the moment Zoezi delivers her products globally through e-commerce, but with the great reception her products have had locally, setting up a physical shop locally isn't too alien of an idea.

To budding entrepreneurs, she advises that having a passion for the business you're setting up and having researched your prospective customers well will set aside you apart from the pack.
