The family of Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua is in mourning following the loss of his mother-in-law who resided in the United States.
In a statement on his social media pages on Tuesday, April 14, Rigathi informed that his 86-year-old mother-in-law, Virginia Wambui, had died after a long battle with cancer.
He added that the family wanted to give the deceased a decent send-off at her village in Gatanga but the ban on international flights was making it difficult.
"We are struggling on how to bring her home at this difficult time when there are no flights coming into the country, in order to fulfill her wish to be rested at her farm in Gatanga in Murang'a County.
"Kindly remember us in your prayers as we come to terms with the loss at a time when all of us are struggling with the challenges of Covid-19," he added.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe on March 22, directed that no international flight will land or take off from Kenya effective March 25.
He stated that the new directive exempted only cargo flights whose crew had to adhere to strict guidelines and would be limited to three crew members.
“Kenyans who are currently in foreign countries and will not have come back within the period are advised to observe the guidelines issued in the respective countries wherever they are," he declared.
Rigathi's mother-in-law died months after his mother, Martha Kirigo Gachagua's death on Monday, December 23, in Nyeri County.
“Though it is difficult for us, we celebrate the precious life that we spent together with her.
"Her 89 years in this world were truly a great blessing and she was the greatest mother. May our mother rest in eternal peace," Rigathi eulogised his mother at the time.
