Kenyans quarantined in Kenyatta University, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUA), KMTC (Kanu Hostel), KMTC (MG Hostel) and Kenya Water Institute will have to endure another 14 days in the facilities.

This is after Health Ministry Director-General Dr. Patrick Amoth stated that those in the mentioned quarantine facilities did not maintain optimal social distance and instead had close contact and interactions.

"After a thorough evaluation of circumstances, it was observed that those in the following quarantine facilities did not maintain optimal social distance and instead had close contact and interactions,” he stated in a memo written to the quarantine centres and signed by the Health DG.

Further, Amoth stated that the above factors could have facilitated transmission and cross infection of the Covid-19 virus.

He added that it was difficult to determine whether all those quarantined in the facilities were safe.

"Their mandatory quarantine period shall be extended by an extra period of 14 days.

"Further, they are directed to observe all the advice in social distancing, hygiene measures and to limit interactions during the period after which a repeat testing for Covid-19 shall be administered," he declared.

This came days after Kenyans in a quarantine facility at the Kenyatta University staged demonstrations against the government.

They complained that they were frustrated by the state of isolation and their efforts to raise issues were futile.

They complained that bills had piled up after an individual at the facility tested positive.
