Former Capital FM Presenter Laura Walubengo on Thursday, April 23, disclosed that her cousin and her husband stuck in India had lost their son back in Kenya.

In a statement on her Twitter page, Walubengo stated that her cousin had accompanied her husband, who was receiving cancer treatment in the country.

They were, however, caught up in the lockdown that was extended to May 3, by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It is during this time that they received the devastating news that their son had succumbed to injuries after he was involved in a road crash in Kikuyu.

"My cousin is stuck in India with her husband who was undergoing chemo treatment. As they wait to come home, she has received news of the death of her son in a road crash in Kikuyu.

"I don’t know. Can’t even imagine that heartbreak. Please say a prayer for her today if you can?" Walubengo requested on her Twitter page.

The demise of their son came a week after Foreign Affairs PS Macharia Kamau, expressed concern of Kenyans in India amid the spread of the deadly coronavirus in the world.

Kamau stated that India was one of the countries that the Kenyan government was closely monitoring.

"These are people who are there for medical purposes. Our estimate is that we have around 160 Kenyans who have found themselves on the wrong side of the lockdown.

"They had gone there either as patients or accompanying patients. The situation there is concerning," expressed Macharia.

On Monday, April 20, the Kenya High Commission in New Delhi announced that it was working on plans to evacuate citizens seeking to return to Kenya but at their own cost.

Kenyans in the country who wanted to return home were requested to submit their names to the Kenya High Commission in New Delhi.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working on logistics to arrange for a chartered flight for the evacuation of Kenyans who want to return home at their own cost," read the statement signed by Ambassador Willy Bett.
