The woman by the moniker Shiks Purity on Facebook had commented on one of the governor's posts and requested to be aided with the essential items.

Some of the items in the van included; oil, packets of flour, cereals, packets of sugar, bar soaps, sanitary towels, among other items.

At a time when the country is fighting the coronavirus pandemic, thousands of Kenyan families are struggling to make ends meet as sources of livelihood are decimated by the disruptions occasioned by the pandemic.

On Tuesday, April 28, three young girls and their grandmother walked 11km in search of well-wishers who would them with food.

The girls, who were reciting a poem outside the Nation Media Group headquarters along Kimathi Street, Nairobi, complained of poverty and explained that their parents had lost their jobs after the pandemic.

The virus has seen several sectors in the country's economy disrupted including retail, hospitality and tourism, public transport among others.

With the shutdowns of businesses, some employees have been fired, others have received hefty pay cuts while others have been sent on unpaid leave.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, on April 16, 2020, stated that needy families would be identified and would receive a weekly stipend.
