Milele FM radio presenter, comedian Felix Odiwour alias Jalang'o opened up on the unprecedented 50% pay cut at Mediamax Network Limited

On Wednesday, April 29, the emcee, while hosting his long time friend Kazungu Matano (Captain Otoyo Sibuor) on his YouTube show dubbed Bonga na Jalas, acknowledged that the world was at an unprecedented moment and everyone needed to uplift each other.

Despite declining to speak on the pay cut issue, Jalang'o, at last, responded after being pressed by his friend.

"To say the truth, I have friends who support me after my salary was slashed by 50%. This matter is in court and I am not allowed to discuss it.

"Anyways let's speak about it. It pains me, but I had planned myself accordingly before President Uhuru Kenyatta announced the cessation of movement in Nairobi County. I called my mother and she sent me cereals from home," Jalang'o disclosed after Otoyo inquired on how he was surviving.

The two comedians who stated that they had reunited on that show for the first time in over a year, urged Kenyans to adhere to protective measures by the government, while also supporting friends and the vulnerable in the society.

"The situation is dire, but whatever it is, from my brother Otos and I, we know that we are in it together. You can uplift someone else like the mothers who used to wash your clothes. Kindly send them something little during this trying moment," Jalango rallied.

"Imagine the mothers who wash clothes are being chased away by watchmen at gates and households are rejecting them. Not because they do not perform their duties well but because everyone is afraid of contracting the disease and someone at all times doubts your movements, arguing that you may have interracted with a positive individual. Also, remember the waiters and bouncers who served you at your favourite bars and restaurants," Otoyo added.

On Monday, April 27, K24 CEO Ken Ngaruiya maintained that the company was going ahead with the 50% pay cut measure despite an outcry from Mediamax employees. This was after President Kenyatta made an impromptu visit to the media house amid rising tensions.

The CEO argued that the cut was issued to shield some of the employees from job losses. Ngaruiya further directed the employees to either issue their consent or offer their comments or representations on options the broadcaster can take to avert job loses in the wake of Covid-19.
