On Wednesday, April 29, Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko got stranded at a section of an earth road in Nairobi when his vehicle got stuck in mud.
The governor, who had reportedly gone to oversee the distribution of food aid, had to get out of his vehicle as his driver tried all he could to save the situation.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Jacob Elkana, the director of communications at the governor's press office, he stated that it had rained heavily, making the roads impassable.
"The governor is a human being just like everyone else. He had gone to oversee the distribution of food, fumigation and the installation of sanitisation booths.
"It had rained heavily so when the vehicle got to a certain point, it could not move," Elkana told our newsdesk.
In the 28-second video, the driver of the Lexus LX 570 tried his best to steer the vehicle up the muddy hill but it kept sliding and moving backward.
As this happened, the governor was seen using his phone as some individuals helped to direct the driver.
While some netizens argued that the driver had poor driving skills, others stated that the vehicle model was not designed to pass through muddy terrains.
"Too much acceleration and wrong steering alignment while negotiating mud," one Geoffrey Rotich stated.
The Lexus LX 570 is a physically imposing SUV with a dramatic front grille that looks ready to conquer anything in its path.
It offers a rare combination of size, comfort and off-road ability. Inside, the LX 570 is a cruise ship, with real wood, supple cushioning and tight build quality.
The heavy rainfalls have left many roads impassable due to mud or destruction by floods.
Just recently, journalists along with staff from the Kenya Red Cross were stranded along a section of the Hola-Garissa Road.
The team had attempted to cross the area in a Kenya Red Cross land cruiser, only to get trapped midway.
