Kenyans have come to the rescue of a woman who was evicted by her landlord from her house and was later defiled by a gang of men at an unfinished building where she sought refuge as her children watched.

From lawyers to psychologists and now Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko, all have come to her rescue after her plight was highlighted by K24 TV on Thursday, May 7.

The 27-year-old, who was kicked out of her house in Mihango, Embakasi narrated that she had been evicted two months before over rent arrears amounting to Ksh 11,000.

She would later seek refuge at a shelter where two men walked in one night and raped her in front of her three-year-old daughter and her seven-year-old son.

The men threatened to kill her children if she did not comply to their demands.

"My son understood what was happening and a couple of psychologists have since called and said they will be talking to him on phone after every two days," she stated.

The mother of two previously hawked fruits along Mombasa Road but customers dwindled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Sonko's team has since visited the woman and taken her to Mama Lucy Hospital, where she received treatment.

"Upon learning of the plight of the lady who was evicted from her house in Mihango, my team today visited her and took her to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital where she underwent comprehensive medical tests," the governor stated.

Sonko added that he would establish a sustainable income-generating activity as well as provide her with a place to stay until her business was stable.

The spread of the Coronavirus disease has seen many families endure tough times due to the shutting down of businesses and loss of jobs.
