The home of Lands Principal Secretary Nicholas Muraguri was reportedly broken into and valuables were stolen in the dead of the night.

According to a report by the People Daily, the incident took place on the night of Sunday, May 10, at around 9 p.m.

Confirming the incident, Nyeri County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara disclosed that an alarm raised by a worker who was asleep in the house disrupted the robbers who only managed to steal two TV sets.

Muraguri and his family members were not at the rural house when the incident occurred.

“It was raining heavily at the time and thugs had taken advantage and gained entry after cutting grills of the backyard window,” stated the commissioner.

The thugs were reportedly armed with crude weapons when they made an entry at the palatial home located in Mweiga, Nyeri County.

The worker, who stays in the house alone, disclosed that he heard unusual activity and upon an assessment, he discovered that thugs had invaded the property.

He later alerted the police who acted promptly.

Burglaries have been on the rise since President Uhuru Kenyatta declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew across the country in an attempt to curb the spread of Covid-19.

At the beginning of April, residents of Nakuru and Molo lamented about a new wave of break-ins during curfew hours.

“The perpetrators of such offences are close relatives, guardians and persons living with the victims

“Depending on the individual facts of each case, upon application by the Director of Public Prosecutions, the courts will consider giving directions on early hearing dates in such cases,” noted the National Council of Administration of Justice (NCAJ) at the time.
