Cornered Thug Plays Dead, Surprises Police With Rapid Strike

A police officer sustained a gunshot wound on Wednesday, May 13, as he confronted four armed gunmen at a petrol station in Kayole.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a witness at the scene of the incident revealed that the four men were gunned down soon after as police back-up arrived at the scene.

"The 4 men were on a robbery mission when officers flagged down their car and ordered them to surrender. 

"That is when they opened fire and shot one of the officers leading to a fierce gun battle. The police soon outnumbered the suspects and killed all four on the spot," he narrated.

He went on to reveal that the officer was quickly rushed to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital for emergency treatment.

One of the suspects pretended to be dead and as soon as the officer passed his line of sight, he drew a pistol and started firing again before he was overpowered and sprayed with a hail of bullets, eyewitnesses narrate. 

The officer was shot in the chest and on his leg during the deadly encounter.

Reports further revealed that 11 rounds of ammunition and 2 spend cartridges were recovered, as well as two pistols.

The 4 suspects were were in a Toyota Cienta registration number KCH 366F which was trailed from Outering Road to Kangundo Road Shell Petrol Station where they were ordered to surrender before the shoot-out ensued

According to the witness report, the 4 suspects are believed to have been armed to the teeth and just about to execute their mission when they were flagged following a tip-off.

Recent police reports have shown an upsurge of crime in the area following the outbreak of Covid-19, and the subsequent implementation of the dusk-to-dawn curfew.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a resident of the area said that waking up to find their shops broken into has been a normal occurrence in the area.

"They are taking advantage of the curfew to ransack our shops in the dead of the night, it has become the new normal," he narrated.

The bodies of the 4 suspects involved in the latest attempted robbery incident were taken to City Mortuary.
