Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has exposed an imposter tricking unsuspecting residents into paying a small fee to facilitate the processing of motorcycle donations from the governor.

The Council of Governors (CoG) chairman took to Facebook on Tuesday, May 19, to alert Kenyans of a fake account under his name purporting to give away boda bodas.

"I have noted with concern a post trending on a Facebook account purporting to be my personal account where unsuspecting young people are lured into paying money to get a motorbike in return.

"I want to state that this is a fraud as the account is fake. I have instituted investigations with a view of bringing to book criminals behind such act.

"My people kindly ignore the post. I don't have any other Facebook account other than this one," wrote Oparanya.

Boda bodas are the most popular means of transport in Kakamega with many youth earning a living from transporting people and goods.

The fake account registered under the name 'Governor Wyclife Oparanya Loans' posted the message on Tuesday.

"Dear Kenyan, I want to bless our young talented youths with motorbike Boxer 150, for them to advance during this hard time.

"Only I will require you to pay Ksh1,650 logbook processing fee to 0714179*** then SMS your full name, ID No. and your area," read the post that had some grammatical errors.

The online fraudster went on to comment that he had received money from three men and posted their Identification Card numbers.

He urged the three not to switch off their phones promising that the motorbike would be delivered to their homes.
