UPDATE: Popular recreational facility 1824 located along Lang'ata Road, Nairobi announced that it would be closing down.
In a notice on its social media pages on Thursday, June 4, the facility announced that it was closing for renovation with no date given for re-opening.
Here is the post:
The National Emergency Response on Covid-19 on Wednesday, June 3, responded following a clip of a party at the popular 1824 Club along Lang'ata road, Nairobi surfaced online over the weekend.
The committee through their social media page observed that such gatherings would contribute to the higher Covid-19 cases being reported in the Lang'ata area due to recklessness by both the owner and the revellers.
"No one should be surprised why we have cases rising in Lang'ata. Our young people have decided not to follow the Government guidelines. And obviously a greedy Kenyan who does not care whether people contract the disease or not.
"Remember the disease does not travel by itself someone carries the disease," the response body noted.

The video in question was reportedly recorded over the weekend, with revellers seemingly enjoying themselves with loud music in the background, some of whom were not wearing masks. The residents don't appear to be observing the rules of social distancing.
The Party at the 1824 club was planned as a medical funds drive and later turned into a full-blown party.
"We are organising a car care event that will help us raise funds to help the family in meeting the ever-increasing cost of treatment. The car clinic will involve a thorough mechanical and suspension check guided by a pre-set check list, followed by a supercar wash, at D-Bass Auto on Lang'ata Road, adjacent to 1824 Whisky Bar," the notice read with 1824 expected to provide lounge space for the three-day event.
Several incidents of clubs still operating have been reported in a number of areas in the city.
A resident of Githurai 44 revealed that there is a club that is still operational with locals frequenting the establishment.
"It operates all day and the police don't interfere even on the weekends,"
"I have passed by several times and most of them are open all day, residents party and drink, no masks on, and no social distancing too," the resident disclosed on condition of anonymity.
A number of Nairobi estates had been highlighted as Covid-19 hotspots having recorded a majority of the cases.
As of May 30, the distribution of the cases reads as follows, Kamukunji (115), Lang'ata (89), Embakasi area (88) Dagoretti area (84), Kibra (191), and Makadara (86).
Notably, Kibra registered a huge spike between May 28 and May 30, during which 105 new coronavirus cases were recorded.
Health CAS Rashid Aman during the June 3 briefing stated that going back to normal without proper measures would result in more cases being reported.
“I am sure that you have seen some video clips on social media showing people crowding in such places throwing all caution to the wind. This is flirting with danger,” he warned.
He pointed out that some Kenyans were not wearing their masks correctly while flouting social distancing rules.
At the same time the forest manager at Ngong Hills, a popular recreational site, stated that visitors would not be allowed on the grounds past 4 p.m.
"For those who will be inside the park by then to move out as well. Nobody is allowed beyond 5 p.m. Also note that there will be no picnics, parties or any other public gatherings until further notice," a notice from the forest management read.
