A 13-year-old boy who stood up to Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya surrendered his weapons and was offered a government scholarship.

The boy on Wednesday, June 3, heeded Natembeya's order of the Kipsigis and Maasai communities to surrender all illegal guns and weapons.

A message of peace was also preached by the boy as he urged the youth in the region to return to learning and bury the hatchet.

"I urge the youth not to resort to violence, that has ended here today and we are still continuing in the process of surrendering weapons. We should also go back to school," advised the boy.

The angry boy claimed to defend his family after their house was torched in tribal altercations in Ololompanki and Oloruashi in Narok.

The mum also noted that she had been unaware of her son's whereabouts during the clashes and was shocked to see him on TV.

"I heard them talk on the radio asking why the mum is allowing her son to join the war. I swear I did not see him. I saw on TV and was surprised but glad that he was still alive," noted the mum.

Narok South Deputy County Commissioner Felix Kisalu offered a scholarship to the boy to assist in his reform process.

"We will help him become someone who can even help the mum in the future. Even if he quit school there are polytechnics, there may be something he admires like being a driver or mechanic.

"We will help free of charge so that he can join a government school and when NYS starts we can recruit him because we have seen he has strength," revealed Kisalu.

A video that surfaced online on Wednesday, May 27, showed Natembeya calling out the young boy from a gathering before interrogating him.

The clip drew widespread reactions with Elgeyo-Marakwer Senator Kipchumba Murkomen calling out Natembeya for what he described as being insensitive to the plight of the homeless boy.
