The former Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Devolution was impeached on Tuesday after 23 of the 33 MCAs in the county voted for her removal while only six abstained.

House Speaker Kenneth Lusaka on Wednesday, June 10 confirmed receiving her impeachment resolution from the Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker Anthony Gathumbi.

In her new challenge to stop the impeachment, the court issued a conservatory order stopping the County Assembly, any other body or authority from discussing, seizing, deliberating or otherwise acting upon the impeachment motion in respect of the applicant.

Pending the hearing and determination of the Amended position, the Court was also pleased to say any resolution passed and or made by the County Assembly in respect of the impeachment motion against the application.

The court also issued a declaration that the proceedings commenced by the County Assembly in respect of the impeachment motion during the subsistence of the order issued on 7th April 2020 are null and void.

The motion to impeach Waiguru was moved by Mutira MCA Kinyua Wangui who accused the Governor of misconduct.

The MCA detailed several tenders in the county that raised questions of conflict of interest as well as misappropriation of public funds.

Waiguru also faced accusations of going against the law by failing to deliver an annual State of the County Address to the Kirinyaga County Assembly.
