Citizen TV anchor Yvonne Okwara has pointed out trends within President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration which she warns should have all Kenyans worried.

On Thursday, June 11, Okwara, a News Gang show panelist, opined that the country may be heading back to the dictatorial and unconstitutional days with Kenyatta at the helm.

The vocal anchor based her argument on Kenyatta's purge on critics, the handshake which makes politicians speak with one voice, the war on the Judiciary, and the promotion of military officials to serve in civil service.

"All the offices that are supposed to offer checks and balances are without leadership or are seemingly being aligned with the executive, poised to carry their wish. Where is the alternative voice? Everyone dissenting is being coerced into submission. The framework of our constitution had this same danger in mind when they set up all the institutions to check the Executive more than any other arm of government.

"They were created at a time when one individual was controlling all arms and could do as he wished. As we head to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2010 Constitution, are we heading back to dark days, or are these merely isolated events. I hope I am wrong, but we are heading for a very bumpy ride?" Okwara stated.

Apart from the office of the Auditor General, she stated that Kenyatta's war with the Judiciary commenced after the controversial 2017 General Elections, where Chief Justice David Maraga nullified Kenyatta's election.

"The President has refused to appoint the 41 judges stating that some of them have ethical issues. However, he has never highlighted any issue or mentioned which one of them he is talking about.

"Some of them are serving in High Court and no action has been taken against them within the six months. Uhuru has no discretion against the constitution he wants to change," she lamented.

She also argued that the purge being conducted by Kenyatta's Jubilee Party and Orange Democratic Movement Party under former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, made both nominated and elected leaders pledge loyalty to party leaders instead of the country.

"When politicians speak with one voice, we should all be afraid. Parties getting politicians to toe the line is worrisome. Both parties speaking about the intention to use the consensus or coercion to push through the Building Bridges Initiative.

"Key positions in the Senate and National Assembly being whipped into shape to speak for the Executive rather than the people who elected them and the promotion of military, about seven of them, to serve in civil service is a worrying trend," she stated.
