Amani National Congress (ANC) Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi, on Wednesday, June 17, called out his National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal and Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, daring him to quit the coalition.
"Why not gather the courage and formally put pen to paper, saying you have exited NASA because you prefer a certain arrangement," he remarked.
He then warned the former Vice President of the perils of serving two masters, stating that there was only one possible result under such circumstances and it was not a good one for Kalonzo.
"Mpanda farasi wawili hupasuka msamba, (one who rides two horses at once will split apart), he warned.
The Swahili proverb the ANC party leader made reference to is used to caution people against trying to undertake two activities at once instead of concentrating on one until the end.
Mudavadi's hard-hitting statement came on the day when Musyoka’s Wiper Party and Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) led by former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, signed a post-election coalition agreement with the ruling Jubilee Party.
Speaking following the signing, Kalonzo castigated the NASA coalition over what he described as inactivity resulting in his decision to plan for the future of his party.
“Our intention is to conclude a coalition agreement with Jubilee. If it were not for this Covid-19 pandemic challenge, we would have our delegates okay the decision,” Kalonzo stated.
“I can tell you for a fact that the NASA summit has never sat since the 2017 elections. If the summit cannot sit, we cannot continue holding our members at ransom. We have to be realistic.” he added
The exit of Wiper and CCM, and ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga's working relationship with the ruling party would spell doom for the coalition that sponsored a Raila-Kalonzo ticket in the 2017 General Elections.
Jubilee Party Vice Chairman David Murathe, speaking following the signing of the new deal with both the Wiper Party and CCM, revealed that the plan was to have the two as part of the coalition in due time.
“Today we are signing a co-operation with two major political parties, Wiper and Chama Cha Mashinani. We are hoping that they will be part of Jubilee Party when we sign a coalition agreement,” Murathe announced.
The NASA coalition had shown signs of disintegrating long before Kalonzo's latest move, with d FORD-Kenya Party Leader Moses Wetangula and Mudavadi both accusing Raila of engineering internal wrangles within their parties to see them ousted from leadership roles.
