Update: Nancy Gathungu was on Friday, July 17, sworn in as the Auditor General at the Supreme Court by Chief Justice David Maraga.
Gathungu promised to clear the audit backlog that had been left behind from the time her her predecessor Edward Ouko’s term ended.
"I will be counting on the support of my staff and key stakeholders in the accountability process, to continue with the good work that my predecessor Mr. Ouko did," she stated.
Update: Wednesday, July 15: The National Assembly’s Finance and National Planning Committee approved Janet Kabui Gathungu's appointment Auditor-General.
Following the committee’s endorsement, she will wait for the final confirmation from the whole house.

Update: Friday, July 10: National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi announced a special sitting of the Assembly on Wednesday, July 15 to vet Janet Kabui Gathungu owing to her appointment to the office of the Auditor-General.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, June 19, nominated Janet Kabui Gathungu for the position of Auditor General. Gathingu's name has since been forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting.
Currently, she serves as the director of audit at the Office of the Auditor and was among 10 individuals who had been shortlisted for the job. The appointment came nine months after Edward Ouko retired.

His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Ms Nancy Janet Kabui Gathungu for the position of Auditor General.
Ms Gathungu was the first among the top three (3) candidates presented to His Excellency the President for nomination by the Recruitment Panel for the Selection of the Auditor General as set out in law.
Consequently, His Excellency the President has forwarded the name of Ms Nancy Janet Kabui Gathungu to the National Assembly for vetting.
