Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo was on Friday, June 19, moved by painful stories of Kenyans who have been stuck in Dubai following closure of the airspace due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Kabogo who has offered to address the matter directly to President Uhuru Kenyatta, also pledged financial assistance to the help repatriate them back to the country.

Speaking with comedian Felix Odiwour (Jalang'o), Kabogo offered Ksh 500,000 towards purchasing air tickets to evacuate the Kenyans.

Kabogo stated that Kenyans were sleeping hungry and some on the streets begging to come back home.

"It is painful to see Kenyans suffering abroad and the government should send one Dreamliner to bring them back home. They are jobless and have nowhere to turn to.

"One of them texted me and told me that they had slept hungry for three days. I believe our ambassador can reach out to Dubai leaders and organise for Kenyans to be granted food and shelter," Kabogo stated.

He further implored Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga to break his silence and address the rampant situations facing Kenyans.

"Of late, Raila doesn't pick my calls. People will claim that I went to be sanitised if I go to see visit him at Capitol Hill, Nairobi offices.

"Why is he silent when Kenyans are suffering? He has a voice that can be used to push the government to act. Who else can swear himself in as President in Kenya and not face the government's wrath?" Kabogo argued.

He urged Odinga to assist Kenyatta in running the government and act on wishes of common mwananchi. Kabogo stated that Kenyatta had too many responsibilities from governance to fighting corruption and coronavirus, and Odinga's experience in the administration would come in handy.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs has since announced travel itinerary plans for Kenyans stuck in India. Kenyan High Commission in India stated that the Kenyans would be evacuated on Tuesday, June 23.

"The planned flight, KQ 224, will depart Mumbai at 0900 hours and is expected to arrive in Nairobi at 1245 hours," a notice by the Commission read.

However, they will carter for their trip back home, paying between Ksh 67,500 to Ksh 95,000.

On  Wednesday, June 17, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir came to the aid of 120 students who were stranded in Sudan amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Nassir contributed Ksh1 million to ensure their safe return back to the country.
