Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Party on Tuesday, June 23, kickstarted disciplinary proceedings against Johnstone Muthama over alleged insubordination.

"Wiper Demoractic Movement-Kenya has initiated disciplinary proceedings against former Machakos Sen. Johnstone Muthama over alleged insubordination and defiance to the party's ideologies. The party has given Sen. Muthama 14 days ultimatum to respond to the said claims," reads an excerpt of the statement released by the party.

Following the first hearing, the party's disciplinary committee handed the vocal Muthama 2 weeks to explain his actions or risk being found guilty of dissension, warranting a ruling that could see him kicked out of the party.

Muthama has been ordered to explain in detail why he should be spared from disciplinary action, standing accused of violating the party's constitution.

The former Machakos Senator had been strongly pushing for coalition talks between Deputy President William Ruto and Wiper leader Kalonzo.

Notably, the disciplinary hearing came less than a week since the cooperation agreement between Wiper and the leading Jubilee party was signed on June 17.

Just two days later, the former Senator was spotted during a closed-door meeting with Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana.

In 2017, Professor Kibwana of the Muungano Party entered into a pre-election pact with the Wiper Democratic Movement Party, he was then appointed Chairman of the Wiper party.

However, one year after being elected, Kibwana fell out with the Wiper Party leading to his public admonishment

The fall out culminated in an announcement by Kalonzo that the agreement between Muungano Party and the Wiper Party had expired.

Professor  Kibwana also claimed that he would have been re-elected regardless of the pre-election pact with the Wiper party and in July 2019, he was replaced as Chairman of the Wiper party by Chirau Ali Mwakwere.

Muthama, a fierce critic of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee government, on December 11, 2019, vowed to lead a delegation of senior political leaders from Ukambani to negotiate for Kalonzo’s position with DP Ruto ahead of the 2022 General Election.
