Interior CS Fred Matiang'i on Friday, July 3, expressed his admiration for a blind Nairobi chief after touring her house in Kiambu county.

The CS who was accompanied by his health counterpart, Mutahi Kagwe, noted that Mirimani sub-chief Patricia Wandia was still serving her residents despite being blind.

The mother of two boys has been fighting to regain her sight for two years after she became blind due to illness.

The Cabinet Secretaries pledged the government's full support to the administrative official as they donated foodstuffs.

Earlier in the day, the two met with the National Chief's Forum urging them to shift into higher gear in addressing cases of sexual and gender-based violence during the Covid-19 pandemic.

His remarks come after President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, July 2, stated that chiefs would be answerable on how school-going children were being defiled under their watch.

"You will also have to explain what you were doing when children were being abused," the president warned.

CS Matiang'i further directed the chiefs to actively take part in the implementation of the Kazi Mtaani Initiative set to be launched in the next few days.

President Uhuru Kenyatta while addressing the National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) at KICC, had directed Regional and County Commissioners to take full control of the program.

“Many of you will recall that a similar program was unfortunately abused. I have to be very clear with you, we will not entertain abuse this time around.

"It will be your direct responsibility to ensure that there is no abuse. It is for you to ensure that the money that comes to your regions is used properly and used for the intended purpose,” the president stated.

He further warned against political interference in the forthcoming national roll-out of the Kazi Mtaani youth employment program.
