Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has fired back at Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe over his comments on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) demanding leadership positions.
Wambugu responded to Saturday, July 4, news report that claimed that Murathe had warned ODM leader Raila Odinga and his party to quit the handshake if not satisfied with the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Murathe's comments were viewed as signaling the beginning of an end to the handshake between Uhuru and Raila which was formed in 2018.David Murathe during a press conference at his Garden Estate home in Nairobi on January 6, 2018.Daily Nation
Wambugu posted a screengrab of the story and noted that the Jubilee Party Vice Chairman would swallow his own words.
"How many days do you think it will take before he swallows these words?" wrote Wambugu as he accompanied the comment with the 'we will protect the handshake' hashtag.
The Nyeri Town MP followed by the comment noting that Parliament had been 'cleaned' following an ouster of perceived rebels from Parliamentary leadership.
"We have cleaned the house inside out. We are now draining the swamp outside near the gazebo, to rid the house of mosquitoes," stated Wambugu.
Murathe claimed that consultations had broken down and Jubilee was extending a favour to ODM on the committee positions.
"There is no room for further consultation. As for the ODM, we are doing them a favour by accommodating them in committee leadership posts.
"They cannot come and make demands telling us who to include. That is our business and it is concluded," he stated.
The bone of contention in the row was after ODM fronted Otiende Omolo to chair the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC), a move that was blatantly rejected by President Uhuru.ODM leader Raila Odinga (right) confers with former Jubilee Vice-Chairman David Murathe during Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1, 2018 at Kinoru Stadium.Daily Nation
