"We got passengers as early as four but it's a challenge because we have not met what the president announced and we have to comply," she explained.

She urged their customers to give them time to prepare, as they strive to meet some of the set guidelines.

Esther added that by 4 am more than 100 passengers had arrived at their offices but some lost hope and returned home.

"I'm from pipeline, I got here at 5 a.m but I found the fare hiked to Ksh. 3,000, I did not have enough cash and asked my friends to bail me out.

"I urge Uhuru Kenyatta to talk to the matatu owners to reduce the fare because some of us are used to upcountry life," she noted.
