A witness disclosed that the property of unknown value was destroyed in the protests disrupting business along the busy road.

According to Human Rights Watch, deaths, since the curfew was instituted in March, had increased with road accidents being a benefactor, alongside Police brutality.

On Sunday, July 5, protesters in Kisii torched Rioma Police Station after the death of a businessman in the area.

According to the protesters, the businessman was shot and killed by a police officer stationed in the area after they got into an argument over the use of hand sanitizer.

Hundreds of protesters gathered and took to the streets, chanting anti-police slogans and demanding justice before they started heading towards the police station.

The protesters stormed Rioma Police Station which they first started bombarding with stones before setting it on fire.
