Former National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale is headed for another powerful Parliamentary position if whispers from the Jubilee Party are anything to go by.

Reports indicated that Duale was the only leader allied to Deputy President William Ruto likely to land a powerful position.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a representative close to the MP disclosed that he had received the news but was yet to decide whether to accept or decline the role.

A relative list of the new appointments showed that Duale had been selected to sit on the all-powerful watchdog Public Accounts Committee chaired by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi.

The new list was scheduled to be presented to National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi on Tuesday, July 14, and was expected to be ratified by the whole House during a special sitting scheduled for Wednesday, July 15.

The list was highly touted as a collaboration between Jubilee Party and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in which members from the latter party snapped up some powerful committee seats.

Speaking to the publication, Minority Whip Junet Mohammed noted that the parties had agreed on new leadership.

“It is true that we have concluded all issues and after the passage of the names during tomorrow’s special sitting, members will move to elect their respective chairpersons as stipulated in the Standing Orders,” stated Mohammed.

ODM is expected to take control of the Education and Finance and Planning committees as well as have vice chairs in the Legal Affairs and Constitution Implementation Oversight committees.

Aden Duale was on Monday, June 22, ousted as Majority Leader in the National Assembly following a Jubilee Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

During the meeting led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, it was resolved that Duale would be replaced by Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya.

The MP, in a statement after the ouster, revealed that he was leaving the position with a smile after major achievements that saw his tenure last for seven years since 2013.

"Today marks the end of my seven years of service to the great people of Kenya as the Leader of Majority of the National Assembly. I was the first occupant of the seat under article 108 of the constitution.

"I am glad that from 2013-2020 I was able to process the agenda of the Majority Party effectively. In particular, I oversaw the passage of over 200 Bills and 500 Motions to mention but a few," noted Duale.
