A section of Nandi MCAs came close to a fistfight after a special sitting that Speaker Joshua Kiptoo had convened turned chaotic.
A video that surfaced on Sunday, July 19, showed MCAs banging tables and jeering each other as the speaker called them to order numerously.
The MCAs were seeking to have the chairperson of an ad-hoc committee ousted.
The committee had been tasked with investigating why a World Bank-funded projected had been halted but an MCA decried that the resultant report had been doctored.
In the video aired on Citizen TV on Sunday, July 19, the speaker is seen rising to his feet as the MCAs shouted at each other.
The project had stalled for two years and the assembly's Powers and Privilege Committee had been congregated to review the final report.
Kipkirui Chepkwony, chairman of the ad-hoc committee, in a rather angry tone, claimed that the claims that the document was doctored were false.
"Honourable spreaker, there is nowhere in this country that anybody has ever been judged or investigated based on an accusation without facing the accuser.
"From the start, it is a false accussation and an injustice to my committee and myself as the chair," stated Chepkwony.
Kapsabet MCA Fredrick Kikemboi, however, dared committee members to resign if they could no longer execute their duties effectively.
"When a motion has been brought in this assmbly, we can approve or deny. If some people cannot carry out the county assembly functions, they should resign and leave."
The ad-hoc committee was established on June 2, 2020, to investigate delays in implementation of projects under the Kenya Urban Support Programme.
The projects include non-motorised transport, streetlighting, fabricated kiosks and waste management among others.
