A pastor in Voi melted her way into the hearts of her neighbours after she donated her palatial mansion to drug addicts.

In a sit down with Kenya News Agency on Monday, July 21, Pastor Rose Rugendo of Rehoboth Prayer and Fasting Center gave up the house to be converted into a rehab center.

She explained that through the act, she was giving back to the community and was inspired by the lack of any rehabilitation center for addicts in the county.

She further noted that she was heartened by parents who had to travel to Mombasa and Nairobi seeking the same service that cost them an arm and leg.

“There is no rehabilitation center in this county. I decided to give out my home to be used as one until such time that the committee managing the center will find land and build a center for people, especially the youth, battling addiction,” she stated.

She further indicated that she moved to a smaller house where she was living meanwhile.

The house is a palatial one-storey mansion located in one of the posh neighborhoods in the outskirts of Voi town.

She was motivated to have her house converted into a rehab center after she incurred humongous bills while seeking to help a family member seeking rehabilitation services from centers in Nairobi and Mombasa.

The center has embarked on seeking accreditation from the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

She, however, noted that the center faces challenges due to lack of teachers and psychiatrists and urged well wishers to chip in and help the youth battling with various addiction issues.

“The challenge we have is a lack of enough teachers and psychiatrists for our clients. We hope more people will come out and give back to the community,” she added.

Rugendo's gesture is a refreshing departure for the grandiose life of other pastors well known for the luxurious homes and flashy lifestyles.

The most dominant in the category include Pastor James Ng'ang'a as well as Pastors Allan and Kathy Kiuna.
