Covid-19 Cases Inch Closer to 15,000 Mark

Kenya has recorded 637 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases in the country to 14,805.

During the daily Covid-19 briefing at Afya House on Tuesday, July 14, Health CAS Dr Rashid Aman announced that 4,275 samples were tested over the same period bringing the total samples tested so far to 254,273.

Of the 637 cases tested, 361 are male and 276 are female while the youngest case is 1-year-old and the oldest is aged 88.

Fourteen of the cases are foreigners while the rest are Kenyans.

At the same time, 499 patients have been discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recoveries to 6,757. 406 of those discharged are from the home-based care program while 93 are from hospitals.

"We continue to express our gratitude to the health care workers for this commendable work that they continue to do under very difficult circumstances in the frontline and within our facilities," Aman stated.

Regrettably, 10 more patients have succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of fatalities to 260.

The 637 cases in counties are distributed as follows; Nairobi (342), Machakos (85) Kajiado (57), Kiambu (51), Nakuru (22), Mombasa (17), Marsabit(), Nyeri (13), Busia (10), Murang’a (9), Uasin Gishu (6), Bomet (5), Kericho (3), Kisii (3), Marsabit (2), while Narok, Vihiga, Meru, Garissa, Embu, Kakamega, Kisumu Kitui, Laikipia, Kilifi and Homa Bay have one case each.

Aman further revealed that a total of 2,738 ptients who had been placed under the home-based care program had recovered over the last week.

"90% are asymptomatic, they can be managed from home which means that our facilities will be able to care for the 10% patients," he added.

Aman praised the decision to launch the program stating that it had proven to be very cost-effective.
