Governors are on the spot for falsely reporting on Covid-19 preparedness with a recent spot-check revealing only five counties met the required 300 isolation bed capacity.

President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered an inspection ahead of the Monday, July 27 crisis meeting which revealed only five out of the previous stated 26 counties met the threshold.

According to a report, Council of Governors chairman Wycliffe Oparanya asked respective Governors to speak on their behalf in the meeting.

The five counties said to have met the 300 isolation bed capacity are Mombasa, Machakos, Murang'a, Kakamega and Kiambu.

A report by Oparanya dated Friday July 24 revealed that 21 had requested for more time after failing to meet the bed capacity set.

Some of the counties that are yet to meet the 300 isolation bed capacity are Nyeri (180), Vihiga (105), Kwale (72), Meru (106), Bungoma (25), Embu (187), Turkana (30), Nakuru (184), Kilifi (271), Baringo (88) and Narok (56).

In totality, counties are well below the set target of a cumulative 30,500 bed capacity with the total attained so far standing at 11,934.

Only three out of the 47 counties in the country are yet to report any Covid-19 case which include West Pokot, Baringo and Samburu.

Reports indicate that the Governors' meeting with President Uhuru will not discuss a review of the 9pm to 4am curfew as it is set to continue till it's expiry on Thursday, August 6.

The meeting was to be held on Friday, July 24 but Governors postponed it citing a lack of clear agenda to discuss at the summit.

Governors are said to have been divided on locking down the Covid-19 hotspots with a section of them against it and others supporting the move.

Some Governors also wanted the three counties who have not recorded any Covid-19 case to be locked down.
