Kenya has recorded 544 more Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours bringing the total number of cases in the country to 19,125

During the daily Covid-19 briefing at Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) offices in Nairobi on Wednesday, July 29, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that 5,259 samples were tested in 24 hours bringing the total samples tested so far to 289,759

Of the 544 cases tested, 340 are male and 204 are female.

At the same time, 113 patients have been discharged from hospital bringing the total number of recovered cases to 8,021.

Regrettably, 12 patients have succumbed to the disease bring the total number of fatalities to 311.

He further noted that so far, over 600 health care workers had tested positive for the virus representing 3% of all cases.

The CS urged Kenyans to avoid contact as the cold weather played a role in the spread of the Covid-19 virus infections.

Kagwe also challenged Kenyans to use money they would have spend on alcohol to provide for their families even as unemployment soared as a result of the economic downturn brought about by the pandemic.

"Use the funds that you used to spend on alcohol to support your family. I am one of those who used to enjoy a drink, but now I will channel the cash towards something else," explained Kagwe.

The CS also addressed false claims regarding the Covid-19 vaccine that sparked from a viral video of doctors who claimed to have found that hydroxychloroquine cured the virus.

“The biggest mistake I think is just imagining that if the person is called a doctor he is an expert in everything…I want to urge that, please, let not everyone become an expert because there’s Covid-19,” the CS warned.
