Popular comedian Daniel Ndambuki, better known by his stage name Churchill opened up on his short stint in football that saw him playing for the Kenya National Team.
Churchill revealed that he played for the Kenya Under-18 team in 1995 and even played for the youth team of the most successful side of the country Gor Mahia.
Such was Churchill's talent in the game that he was put on scholarship throughout his high school education after impressing with his skills from Primary school.
"I grew up with football in Machakos, funny enough we used to have football teams, I started playing football in Primary School for a team known as East Africa Portland Limited.
"I have to tell you, in high school, I never paid school fees because I was on scholarship under the Coca Cola company and that's how I ended up playing football for Kenya Under-18. At that time we were known as Nyayo Stars," he explained.
The Classic 105 presenter noted that there was a popular team by the name Zamaku and shared a light story on how tales were being told of the team travelling to Mombasa for a game but ended up marrying from the area, failing to return home.
He later relocated to Nairobi where he joined Gor Mahia Youth and played with the game's greats such as Tillen Oguta who went on to become a regular in the Harambee Stars side.
Churchill's promising career was robbed by a nasty right knee injury that he still suffers effects from as it is the reason for his bouncy walking style.
He, however, continued to be involved in the game as he joined Kenya Broadcasting Cooperation to commentate alongside the famous Jack Oyoo Silvester.
The household comedian was a revered midfielder whose calm demeanour earned him the nickname Zizou that he shared with 1998 World Cup winner Zinedine Zidane.
"I was not a fast player but I used to settle with the ball every time I get it, if you would run out of options then you give me the ball," he noted.
In a zoom interview organised by Jaza Stadi Initiative CEO Bramwell Karamoja, Churchill shocked Presenter Maina Kageni and Felix Odiwuor, alias Jalang'o with the story of him playing football back in the day.
