Maringo Hamza Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mark Ng’ang’a took off in the middle of a live television interview after being tear-gassed by police outside City Hall, Nairobi.

The MCA was criticising Ministry of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i after his visit to City Hall on Thursday, July 30.

"I want to tell Matiang'i, yesterday we were very angry because you lied on national TV after saying you disarmed 14 people, now you have come to the Assembly with General Badi.

"Just like I said, we are following what the President said and Badi was appointed not to involve himself with politics," noted the MCA.

Nga'ng'a continued with his onslaught on Matiang'i urging him to focus on reshaping the National Police Service that currently has a number of challenges.

Before he could finish his rant, a tear gas canister was lobbed forcing all the MCAs gathered around to flee for safety as the interview ended abruptly.

Waithaka MCA Anthony Kiragu who spoke before Nga'ng'a complained of being humiliated in the house and asked Matiang'i to explain how Speaker Beatrice Elachi has 30 armed police officers.

He also claimed that Elachi was heard givinng a shoot to kill order for MCAs, a claim which was later denied by the speaker.

Matiang'i and Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) boss Mohammed Badi, on Thursday, July 30, made an abrupt visit to City Hall after the assault of an MCA.

Following his visit Matiang'i resorted to constructing a Police Station inside City Hall which houses Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's office as well as the County Assembly.

The CS explained that the move was necessary to curb future wrangles as City Hall had already experienced various demonstrations varying from MCAs to workers demanding pay.
