Tuju Summons Nairobi MCAs Before Speaker Election

Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju on Thursday, August 13, summoned Nairobi MCAs to the party headquarters at Pangani, Nairobi for a consultative meeting.

Tuju called for the meeting days after the resignation of Beatrice Elachi, who was the county assembly speaker.

“In light of the current developments at the Nairobi County Assembly, you are required to attend a consultative meeting of all Jubilee elected and nominated MCAs at Jubilee Headquarters in Pangani at 12 noon on Thursday, August 13, 2020 without fail,” Tuju said in the letter dated August 12.

Additionally, Tuju stated that the Jubilee Party whip at the assembly, Paul Kudos, was expected to whip members accordingly.

The meeting has been called ahead of the county assembly speaker elections scheduled for Friday, August 14.

On August 12, 2020, the Clerk of the Assembly Pauline Sarak Akuku invited all interested applicants to apply for the position in a newspaper advertisement.

On the same day, eight MCAs who were summoned to appear before the party's disciplinary committee over claims of misconduct, will have their meeting at 10 am.

The MCAs summoned include; John Kamangu Nyumu (Ruai), Millicent Mugambi (Ziwani), Jeremiah Karani (Kayole Central Ward), Charles Thuo (Dandora Three MCA) while the nominated ones include  June Ndegwa, Joyce Kamau, Susan Makungu and Margaret Mbote.

“This letter is to inform you that you are required to appear before the disciplinary committee on August 13, 2020 at 10 am at the party headquarters.

"The committee shall grant you an audience on this date to hear your side of the story. A decision may then be made whether to prefer formal charges or not against you," reads the letter.
