Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday, August 23 fired back at Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for its statement maligning him over his response to the alleged Covid-19 scandal that rocked the country.

In a scathing response to the ODM statement on Saturday, Ruto branded the opposition as 'Lords of Corruption' and insisted that the handshake was not struck in the best interests of Kenyans.

"The pretentious (former) Opposition, now turned Lords of corruption, attempted defence of the Covid-19 grand larceny is NOT shocking.

"It confirms the worst of Kenyan's fears that their side of handshake was never interested in the people's good but opportunity to loot. What a shame," he stated.

In response to his firey statement, Sifuna clarified his statement by saying that ODM asked for an audit and did not defend the corruption scandal.

"We asked for an Audit. In which language is that a defence of theft? It is the hope of the actual thieves to dissappear in the fog of the manufactured "outrage".

"The worst of Kenyans fear is you being in charge for we will lack words to describe the plunder that will ensue," he responded.

This comes in the wake of ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna hitting out at the Deputy President suggesting that his Thursday, August 20, remarks was a greenlight for funds to be stolen so long as his name was not implicated in the scandal.

"This statement suggests that it is okay for the funds to be stolen if he is not to blame, or even more unsettling, it expresses the jealousy of being left out of the gravy train.

"Even more unsettling [is that his remarks] express the jealousy of being left out of the gravy train," noted Sifuna.

Sifuna went on to blast Ruto for what he described as carrying out campaigns at his residence while cheering 'wrongdoing within the government' instead of helping President Uhuru Kenyatta to crack the whip on corruption cartels.

ODM was responding to Ruto's take on a lead story by the The Standard on Thursday, August 20, that claimed he was sidelined on key government decisions.

In a hilarious response to the article, Ruto stated that, in light of his being seidelined from government, at least he would not be blamed for the Covid-19 graft.

"At least for once it won't be possible to be blamed for what someone said, "started in Wuhan as a virus, landed in Italy as a pandemic and now in Kenya as a multi-billion shilling corruption enterprise".

"Wacha niendelee kama spectator isorait (let me continue as a spectator, its alright)," stated the Deputy President.
