UPDATE Monday, August 31: Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa denied charges of misappropriating Ksh.19million of the County Development Fund (CDF) and was freed on Ksh. 2 million cash bail.

The MP was arraigned in Mombasa court on Monday and was handed an option of paying Ksh.5million bond for her release.

Jumwa surrendered to police on Sunday, August 30 after a court order following reports that she had gone into hiding.


UPDATE 5:00 p.m.: Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa was arrested by police after surrendering at Port Police Station in Mombasa.

She is set to be arraigned in court on Monday, August 31 over the alleged misappropriation of Ksh 19 million Constituency Development Fund.

In a video, Jumwa had earlier on revealed that she is headed to Port Police Station to surrender herself following a court order.


Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa resurfaced in a video leaving her home on Sunday, August 30 after reports of her going into hiding.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered for her arrest on Thursday, August 27 over allegations of misappropriation of funds.

Jumwa in the video cleared the air that she had not been arrested and was going to present herself to Port Police Station as a law-abiding citizen.

"Good Morning, Malindians, Kenyans, I'm now off to Port Police as directed by the courts, I'm hearing rumours that I've been arrested.

"I've not been arrested, I'm going as a law-abiding citizen. I'm now off, see you," stated Jumwa in the video.

According to reports, Jumwa had switched off all her phone numbers and could not be traced in all her known residences.

In the video, Jumwa is seen leaving her home before bidding farewell to kids around as she embarked on her journey to the police station.

The MP failed to appear in court on Friday, August 28 while the six co-accused persons in Jumwa’s case were arraigned before Mombasa Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti.

The Magistrate ordered Jumwa to present herself before Port Police for processing before she appears before the court for plea taking.

Her lawyers Danstan Omari, Jared Magolo and Cliff Ombeta said their client received the DPP’s orders late in the night.

Jumwa was accused of receiving over Ksh. 57 million from the National Government Constituency Development Fund.

It was alleged that several business entities controlled by Jumwa fraudulently received the sum following investigations by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
