Embakasi East MP Babu Owino is known for his antics that make headlines, be it for the right or the wrong reasons.

On September 11, the first-time legislator joined a troupe of acrobats during their performance.

The ODM MP not only posed for a photo opportunity with the crew but he actually joined in the routine.

When forming the pyramid which involves the stacking of performers to form a human pyramid, Owino moved to be the centre piece with the other five members supporting him.

The other acrobats hoisted the legislator into the air and held him up. The MP was clearly nervous but he managed to hold the position for a few seconds as the cameras clicked and the crowd that had gathered cheered.

Posting the pictures on his social media page, Owino stated that the routine was a rehearsal for the planned demonstrations for the payment of BOM teachers.

"All BOM teachers must have rubber shoes and helmets ready for mega countrywide demonstrations that will start from midnight next week after my presser. I also have anti teargas medicine that I’ll prescribe on that day," he stated.

Acrobatics has been a part of Kenyan entertainment for many years with many troupes adopting the street-style shows which feature 3-6 artists, who often perform traditional style dancing alongside acrobatics.

Others go for more complicated routines which are circus-style shows. These are more like a show that tells a story.

The individual performers and groups of acrobats do amazing acts of balancing, juggling, and gymnastics, and they are often amusing.

Some of the most notable acrobatic troupes in Kenya are the Sarakasi dancers, Kenya Safari Acrobats and the Nairobi African Acrobats.

They often sell themselves as being crowd pleasers as they will draw more attention from the audience.

Acrobatics is not a choosey sport as it keeps every member of the crowd, regardless of age, entertained.
