Covid-19: Trans Nzoia Leads as Cases Rise to 37,489

Kenya has recorded 141 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours as the country's total caseload rises to 37,489 .

During the daily Covid-19 briefing at the Thika Level 5 Hospital, Kiambu County on Thursday, September 22, Health CAS Mercy Mwangangi announced that 3,307 samples had been tested over the period.

All are Kenyans apart from seven who are foreigners while 103 are males and 38 are female. Trans Nzoia County, for the first time, led with 28 cases.

The distribution in other counties is as follows; Nakuru 24, Nairobi 14, Mombasa 14, Kiambu 9, Migori 8, Kisumu 6, Kajiado 6, Uasin Gishu, Kitui, Narok, Turkana have 5 cases each, Bungoma, Homa Bay, Machakos, West Pokot have 2 cases each while Murang'a, Nandi, Vihiga, Meru and Busia have a case each.

The youngest case is a 4-year-old child and the oldest is aged 74.

At the same time, 81 patients were discharged, 69 from various hospitals and 12 from the the home-based care programme bringing the total number of recoveries to 24,334. The number of recoveries are estimated at 65% in the county.

"We have long ignored the health care workers but the silver lining during the covid-19 pandemic has been the appreciation of what it means to be a doctor, to be a nurse, to be a lab technician and so we continue to thank you all for your dedication," Mwangangi expressed.

Unfortunately, 5 patients have succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of fatalities to 669.

Mwangangi noted that most Kenyans were not following the Covid-19 guidelines that have been set aside by the government in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.

She encouraged Kenyans to follow the guidelines to avoid a second wave.

The Health Ministry has continued to urge Kenyans to wash hands regularly, wear masks and practice social distance to contain the spread of the virus.
