Nominated MP David Ole Sankok was on Tuesday, September 29, demoted from his position as a member of the National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity Committee in Parliament.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the vocal MP claimed that the demotion came after being pressured to turn against Deputy President William Ruto.

Sankok, however, stated that the de-whipping was done procedurally.

"In accordance to Standing Orders 176 (1) and 176 (2) the de-whipping was done procedurally, though I suspect it is linked to my refusal to yield to distant myself from the DP.

He further noted that prior to the decision, a leading member of the commission had visited his home and made a number of demands which he did not yield to.

"He traveled all the way to my home to make strange demands, but I hope he didn't influence my removal.

"I hope I will be replaced by a member who will fight for equal opportunities for persons with disabilities and the marginalized communities because that was my duty in the committee," he added.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi confirmed that he had received the letter and was preparing to replace Sankok within 14 days.

"I have received and accepted a letter from the Jubilee Party that it has discharged Hon. David Ole Sankok from the Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunity with immediate effect. The vacancy will be filled in 14 days," he remarked.

Sankok joins a growing list of MPs allied to the DP who have been axed from various committees in Parliament.

The legislators included Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru, Aldai MP Cornelly Serem, and Bomet Woman Representative Joyce Chepkoech Korir.
