A bodyguard of Githunguri MP Gabriel Kago on Wednesday, September 30, allegedly shot a nightguard dead at a club in the wee hours of the morning in Ngengu village, Kiambu County.

Reports indicated that the bodyguard shot the watchman after a heated exchange.

Witnesses alleged that the constable ordered the guard to open the bar during odd hours, but he refused, prompting the bodyguard to fire at him.

The guard was rushed to Radiant hospital in Kiambu County, where he is reported to have passed on.

Kiambu Deputy County Commander Lazarus Wambua confirmed the incident and indicated that the suspect had since been arrested and police were conducting investigations into the matter.

Officers are said to have camped outside the bodyguard's house for two hours after he refused to voluntarily surrender.

He is currently being held at the Kiambu Police Station.

The incident came days after President Uhuru Kenyatta directed that bars be re-opened.

"Bars and eateries will be open until 10 p.m. Unaweza kukunywa pombe (You can now drink alcohol)," Uhuru stated.

Revellers across the country thronged bars on Tuesday as owners sought to offer services under strict guidelines outlined by Ministry of Health.

On the very day of the Presidential address, a security guard in a bar was beaten to death in a retaliatory attack after he allegedly killed a reveller on Sunday in Makongeni Estate, Thika.
