A marriage proposal is a show of commitment, where couples make the decision to take things to the next level. In Kenya, it is rare to see public proposals because of the culture surrounding the practice.
Considered an intimate event, some of the best proposals are those that are thought out and unique.
Some Kenyan men have gone against the grain and taken their engagements to live TV, choosing to surprise their partners with thousands of people watching.
1. Musician Vivian and Sam West
While making an appearance on Citizen TV's 10 Over 10 show, Singer Vivian got caught off-guard as her fiancé popped the question during the airing of the program.
"Vivian is a queen and she needs a man who can build a palace for her," he began as the audience cheered.
He later went on to use her song titles in his proposal as he showed her a ring and went down on one knee.
“You sang about a woman in love and I’d like to say that you have now made me a man in love. You have always made my heart go Teren Teren and I wish to ask. Will you marry me?" he inquired.
Amidst the cheers, Vivian accepted the proposal as the audience cheered for the two.
The couple tied the knot in 2018 are still together.
2. Cece Sagini Engagement on Trend
In 2015, when Larry Madowo was still hosting the NTV's The Trend Show, Musician Cece Sagini got a huge surprise when her boyfriend Victor Peace proposed.
While promoting her song on the show, Victor who is a professional photographer went down on his knees before she could perform her song.
The musician had a mixture of excitement, shock, and astonishment on her face before she finally said 'Yes' to the proposal.

3. MC Xtian and girlfriend on Crossover 101
Chris Chege Njuguna popularly known as MC Xtian surprised his girlfriend Thabitha Wanjiru with a live on-air proposal on NTV's Crossover 101.
Flanked by the show hosts, Ngujuna went down on one knee and put his girlfriend on the spot.
She said yes amidst finding words to express herself.

4. Wajesus family proposal on Kubamba Show
The popular YouTube duo got engaged during a live airing of Kubamba Show on Citizen TV in 2017.
Kabi wa Jesus made an entrance was Milly expectedly waited to for what was going to happen.
"During the proposal, I was very emotional but I thought I had to be strong because it was live on television. I had to keep my composure but I was so happy I couldn't even calm," he confessed in a later interview.
The two then got married in a white church wedding and have one child.

5. Churchill Show Proposals
The Churchill Show has provided a platform where men have proposed to their girlfriends on live TV.
In one incident, during the airing of Churchill Raw, MC Jessy pulled a woman from the audience, who stated that her boyfriend was in the United States.
Unknown to her, her partner, Peter was standing on the same stage, and only when the host told her to turn that she saw him.
Fighting tears of excitement, she composed herself and that is when the second surprise hit her packaged in a proposal.
In a separate incident, a reformed drug addict made amends with his girlfriend as he promised to be a better man, a promise that ended in an engagement.
