KCSE exams are also scheduled to start on March 25, 2021 and end on April 16, 2021.

In his directive, Magoha directed that wearing of facemasks would be mandatory, and that learning institutions would be required to carry out temperature checks.

He also noted that institutions that had been used as quarantine facilities had already been fumigated and that they had been linked to nearest health facilities.

The CS also urged teachers to issue psychological and spiritual support to students noting that the government had footed KCPE and KCSE costs for all students.

The directive comes barely a week after President Uhuru Kenyatta issued guidelines to be observed before school reopen during the Covid-19 conference hosted at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

The Head of State had failed to issue a definite date on the resumption of learning.

Uhuru had noted that schools would only reopen once the Education and Health Ministry sufficiently guarantees  the safety of learners.

The announcement comes on the same day university students from various campuses started reporting back to their institutions, an exercise that began on Monday, October 5.

The government is yet to announce the school resumption date for the rest of the students.
