Turkana Records Unusual Hike as Caseload Hits 39,586

Kenya has recorded 137 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 39,586.

In a statement, Health CAS Rashid Aman on Tuesday, October 6, announced that 1,258 samples had been tested over the period bringing the total samples tested so far to 566,536.

The CAS noted that most of the cases were Kenyan.

Additionally, 94 are male and 43 are female with the youngest case being a one-year-old and the oldest aged 81 years.

296 more patients have recovered from the disease raising the total to 27,331.

Regrettably, 8 patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 743.

Turkana recorded unusual hike and recorded 34 cases.

The CAS discouraged politicians from carelessly carrying holding rallies explaining that their actions stood between a safe country and a second wave.

"We shall have ourselves to blame if Kenya is hit by a second wave of Covid-19. We are between a safe country and a second wave of the virus. The choice is ours," he stated.

He further disclosed that Nairobi Remand Prison would cease to receive remandees starting Wednesday, October 7, 2020, after 35 tested positive for Covid-19.

"There is an increase of Covid-19 cases in prisons… 55% of new cases in Nairobi in the last 24 hours came from Nairobi Remand prison.

"33 of the 34 cases in Turkana are from Kakuma refugee camp," he noted.
