Police bosses have been moved in changes targeting Nyanza region.

A report by The Standard on Thursday, October 8, indicated that Machakos County Police boss Karanja Muiruri was promoted to become Nyanza Regional Police Commander.

The officer replaced Lydia Ligami who was moved barely two months after being deployed in the area.

She was recalled to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters where she is yet to be redeployed.

Ligami was moved to the region in August 2020 in changes that saw her replace the then commander Noah Mwivanda.

The changes are the first in a series of reshuffles about to affect the police force in which 3,500 officers are expected to be promoted to new ranks.

This changes come a day after National Security Advisory Council head by Joseph Kinyua unveilled a raft of measures that politicians are expected to follow before holding public rallies.

The commission has appealed to the country's senior most leaders to demonstrate visible and positive leadership by persuading their rank and file and their supporters to hold onto peaceful, cohesive and united Kenya.

In the effect, the politicians will be expected to get clearance from Police OCS before holding public rallies.

The directive came a day before Deputy President William Ruto was scheduled to hold a meeting in Kisii.

On Wednesday, police dispersed Ruto's supporters at Kebirigo High Schools in Nyamira County.

Police officers were seen ushering residents out of the event. They also removed tents and disarranged seats that had been erected.

Ruto was set to meet boda boda riders aligned to his hustler movement.
