Zainab Chidzuga, the mother of renowned media personality Mwanaisha Chidzuga, was among outstanding men and women who were recognised by President Uhuru Kenyatta during the Mashujaa celebrations on Tuesday, October 20.
Zainab was recognised for her work of championing for the rights of the less fortunate in Kwale County.
Taking to her social media pages, Mwanaisha congratulated her mother and praised her for ensuring development and change among individuals.
"Thank you for leading the way, mentoring and being a guardian to so many of us. We love you and forever we will be grateful for impacting our life in so many ways," the media personality wrote on her Instagram page.
Zainab was a contender for the Kwale County Women Rep seat in 2017 but failed to defend her seat as she lost to ODM’s Zuleikha Juma Hassan.
She was, however, recently appointed to the board of the Special Economic Zones Authority for three years.
Other individuals who were recognised for similar works during the Mashujaa day celebrations included Shamsa Abaubakar Fadhil, hailed for spearheading Covid-19 initiatives by sensitizing the community using her own resources.
Abdalla Juma Mambo was feted for promoting education through establishing schools while Patrick Koba Mzungu gained recognised championing education for persons living with disabilities.
Ibrahim Omar Wayu, a campaigner against FGM and early girl-child marriages, Ahmed Noor Abdi, a peace-builder and youth mentor, Anne Njoki Gaiching'a, a volunteer for community development initiative were also honored.
Journalists recognised during the event included; Patrick Munene Kamau, a standard media journalist who has been championing for human rights since 1989 and Elynah Sifuna, a sports journalists of international repute.
The president also recognized sports heroes and heroines including; Hanah Ngendo, an award-winning deaf athlete, Mercy Mideva, the most valuable deaf basketball player, Elijah Amota, former Harambee Stars player, Peter Lichungu, former AFC Leopards player among others.
Some of the freedom fighters who were recognised included; Nyamum'kunganiam' Mugambi, Julius Mwiti, Grace Nduta Kinyugu and Judy Wambui Kariuki among others.
