The residents stated that senior officers in the area had ignored their complaints about the illegal drug trade.

"Bhang is openly sold to our husbands, youth, and school-going children. Young men have been stealing utensils, food, and other household goods, which they use to buy the drugs," one local noted.

On his part, area County Commissioner Kimani Mbogo expressed his disappointment on how the case has been handled despite the suspects being arraigned in court.

"I am aware of the illicit trade in the homestead. I have had him arrested several times but I can't explain why he has never appeared in court," he stated.

A report by an international media house, France 24, stated that the illegal drug market in Kenya was worth more than Ksh1 Billion.

"The drug trade is constantly growing and has serious consequences for the health of Kenyans. Previously absent from the country, hard drugs – especially heroin – are now easy to find and at minimal cost," the report read in part.
