Ex-KDF Chief Mwathethe Appointed as KenGen Chairman

Former Chief of Defence Forces Samson Mwathethe has bagged a new job.

In a statement issued by Kengen on Wednesday, November 4, the former KDF boss was appointed as the new chairman of the company's board.

Mwathethe replaced Joshua Choge who had served at the position since 2014.

During the announcement, the electricity generating company hailed Mwathethe as poised to bring a wealth of experience and leadership.

"The experience will be instrumental in steering the organization on its noble mandate to generate reliable, safe and competitively priced electric energy for the nation and also diversify the business to expand revenue streams.

“Under General Mwathethe’s leadership, KenGen is committed to strengthening its stakeholder relations as we continue to build a responsive and dynamic business that takes into account emerging technological advancements and social trends,” stated KenGen CEO Rebecca Miano.

Mwathethe retired from his role in KDF in April and President Uhuru Kenyatta hailed him as being an exemplary leader and soldier during his tenure.

"Since your appointment as the Chief of Defence Forces five years ago (May 2015)we have seen significant expansion in our military and enviable improvement in the defence capability of our forces; thus giving Kenyans confidence that their borders are well protected from any external aggression,” stated the President.

Before then, he held various other positions including Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, Commander of the Kenya Navy, Deputy Commander Kenya Navy, Kenya Navy Logistics Commander as well as the Base Commander Mtongwe and Fleet Commander.

His other appointments included Chief of Systems & Procurement, Department of Defence, Commander of Individual Kenya Navy Ships and Staff Officer Operations at Navy Headquarters.

He was replaced by Lieutenant General Robert Kariuki Kibochi from the Chief of Defence Forces post.
