Detectives from the Special Service Unit (SSU) gunned down a suspect following a botched robbery attempt in Thika's Makongeni-Kiganjo estate on Friday, November 6.
In a series of tweets on the DCI's Twitter page, the investigative body stated that a team of detectives engaged a three suspected gang members in a shootout after being cornered.
"On being challenged to surrender, two of the suspects drew pistols and started shooting indiscriminately," said DCI.
However, two of the suspects fled on foot while a third one engaged the officers in a shootout, prompting them to take cover. The officers are said to have shot the suspect killing him.
The three suspects were reportedly targeting a factory between Thika's Makongeni-Kiganjo estate and Engen when they were intercepted.
Several sim cards and three ID cards were recovered from the suspect.
Officers have since launched investigations to nab the suspects who fled on foot.
In other news, a senior KDF private aged 28 years and three other individuals were arrested by DCI detectives based at Kasarani.
The four are in custody following an incident where a 24-year-old man was kidnapped from his residence at Kasarani and taken to an unknown place.
The man was rescued following a report from the victim's relatives that he had gone missing.
A Toyota Noah that was used to pick the victim from his house, the victim's mobile phone among other items were recovered by the detectives.
